Smoothie recipe for Crohns and Colitis: Immune Booster

I don’t know about you, but I LOVE me a good smoothie during summer months especially. They are refreshing, nutrient dense, an easy way to sneak in vegetables, and can be packed with good quality calories for those in need of weight gain. I am a fan of fat of all kinds so the yogurt you see above is full-fat, homemade SCD yogurt.

Immune Booster instructions

Throw ingredients above into a high speed blender for 30-60 seconds. For creamier texture add ½ c ice.

Increasing calories

Add 1-2 Tbsp nut butter of choice (peanut, almond, cashew…)

Allergic to nuts? Add 1-2 Tbsp of sunflower butter OR 1-2 Tbsp avocado oil OR ¼ whole avocado

Add ¼ c of coconut milk from can

Allergic to dairy? Or for a vegan variation:

Replace cow’s milk probiotic yogurt with coconut milk or almond milk yogurt (without any food additives).

    Thank you for the smoothie ideas. I love how you broke down the nutrients and gave some high fat or diet restricted options. As a busy mom, nurse, and Nurse Practitioner student, knowing those tips and tricks makes it so much easier to modify a simple smoothie recipe for whatever I might be missing in my diet that day.
